Does The Longhorn Network Suck?
I don't know the answer to this question but I think it is important to pose it. I watch the LHN occasionally and I have been on it once, but I still haven't formulated a decent enough opinion to share, so I thought I would just open it up for conversation. Unlike a majority of you, I actually get the Longhorn Network. The benefit is minimal. I am a student, so I can go to the football games that LHN airs, and I have no desire to watch middle of the week baseball or basketball games against small in state schools. Especially when we suck at sports. Does the success of the athletic department...

Fitness Success: Breaking those winter habits for a summer body
Memorial Day is the unofficial first day of summer (a.k.a. the great unveiling), and for most people to feel good at the pool or the beach they usually need to drop a few (or more) pounds of body fat. Consider this quote from the novelist Charles Reade: "Sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an action and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny." To apply this quote to health, fitness, and/or weight loss (fat loss) you simply replace the word "character" with "lifestyle", and the word "destiny" with "body." This is the fundamental truth that infomercials would love for us to forget. The first step in changing your habits (which is...

For Dodgers, in-season managerial change is rare
Don Mattingly has a 187-181 career record as Dodgers manager, including 19-26 this season. (AP) LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers have changed managers in midseason because of poor team play just once in the past 111 years. That was 1998, when the News Corp. ownership group that had traded Mike Piazza a month earlier swept out manager Bill Russell and general manager Fred Claire. Russell, who had replaced Tommy Lasorda after the latter's 1996 heart attack, was replaced by Glenn Hoffman, triggering a very un-Dodgers-like procession of Davey Johnson,...

We cannot police players all the time, says Srinivasan
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a lot of flak over the past two weeks. The spot-fixing scandal has trained the spotlight on the Board’s methods of governance and its willingness to punish erring players. In this exclusive interview to The Hindu, N. Srinivasan, president, BCCI, says that the Board is playing it straight and the players cannot be policed by the BCCI all the time. What is your view on the spot-fixing controversy? I never expected this really. It is easy to slam the BCCI as it is being done. We took all possible...

Sharks, Kings dive into embellishment accusations, because it’s the thing to do now
Back in Round 1, Kevin Bieksa of the Vancouver Canucks took a moment to suggest that the San Jose Sharks occasionally dabbled in embellishment. It was a fairly transparent bit of gamesmanship, and even moreso after he gave a second performance of the monologue, this time with props. It didn't work, either. Thereafter, the Canucks won zero games. But that didn't discourage San Jose Sharks' winger T.J. Galiardi from trying out the tactic himself. On Thursday, Galiardi had a few words to say about LA Kings' goaltender Jonathan...
